Arna Renna recently presented her collection of paintings from Norway: Seven Summers, at the Nordic Center in Duluth and currently at the Vesterheim Museum in Iowa. The subject matter has dwelled inside her heart and inner eye, based on compelling experiences in her late teens and early twenties, while working at the historic Hotel Roisheim in the heart of Jotunheimen, Norway’s highest mountain range. She is eager to share her experiences and her relationship to nature, through painting outdoors, on location.
Born and raised in Duluth by immigrant parents, Arna left after high school to pursue studies in Art at the Academy in Oslo and lived there consecutively for 13 years. Upon returning to Duluth, she began plein aire painting, her way of reconnecting to her environment. As time marches on, she now has 30 years of experiences behind her.
In addition to painting, Arna is a folk musician, specializing in traditional Norwegian vocal folk music. She also plays various traditional folk instruments. In her desire to share with others and encourage greater interest, she produces and hosts Nordic Roots Music on KTWH.org: Two Harbors Community Radio.
As for her spiritual practice, Arna has practiced Nichirin Buddhism with the Soka Gakkai since 1986, which informs every aspect of her life.
